JCWI has been vocal in opposing the Government’s proposals to introduce an English language requirement for marriage visas. The charity argues a requirement already exists for spouses to learn English within two years and the new rules may discriminate against women, those from south Asia and the poorest wishing to come to live with their loved ones in the UK. We have appeared on the Politics Show – Hina Majid is interviewed at the end of the programme – and press and television in the UK and the United States.
