On Thursday G4S will be holding their AGM. The Jimmy Mubenga Campaign have called for a protest at the meeting.
Readers will recall we reported the protest to the Home Office back in November last year which called for justice for Jimmy and an inquiry into both his death and more generally the practice of forced removals.
There has been no enquiry or prosecution of the security guards working for G4S who killed Jimmy, or any discernable change in policy regulating removals.
G4S subsequently lost the contract for Home Office removals from the UK, with rival firm Reliance winning the business, but Security Guards with experience in removals were recruited by Reliance, many of them having previously worked for G4S. The Guardian reported in February that G4S were repeatedly warned of the dangers of using the restraint techniques that killed Jimmy, but those same techniques were used “with the tacit approval” of senior managers.
G4S retains around £600m of contracts with government departments and is responsible for security at Brook, Dungavel and Tinsley Houses (all immigration removal centres), youth facilities around the country and will be responsible for security at the London 2012 Olympics.
