The Radio 4 discussion programme, You & Yours had quite an input from JCWI today (Tuesday 2 August). In the studio was Hina Majid, Policy Director of JCWI, doing battle with Lord Digby Jones and articulately putting the case against the pre-entry language requirement. One of the callers was put in contact with the programme by JCWI (we’ll be giving more detail on that story in the near future).
We think it was a good show, Digby Jones resorted to repeatedly referring to one case, that of Rashida and Vali Chapti and not taking on the evidence and arguments of the many people stacked up against him.
One thought. The first caller, an Englishman now living in France, confused us. He says he learnt his French after he moved across the Channel, but insists that making others moving to the UK to learn the language in advance is a good idea – what makes him such special case?
